Hal's industry credentials include Architectural Hardware Consultant (AHC) and Certified Door Consultant (CDC) through the Door and Hardware Institute (DHI). He also is a Certified Document Technologist (CDT) through the Construction Specification Institute (CSI), a Certified Automatic Pedestrian Door Inspector through the American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers (AAADM), a licensed General Building and Door Specialty contractor in California, and a Certified Fire & Egress Door Inspector through Warnock Hersey / Intertek.

Hal has been successfully representing worldwide manufacturers and providing technical services to architects for more than 15 years. More than 20 years ago, He obtained his Specialty and General B State of California Contractor's License while working as a finish carpenter who specialized in doors, frames, and hardware installation. He also has seven years of experience in contract distribution of doors, frames, and hardware. Hal has been a National Instructor for the Door and Hardware Institute (DHI) since 1999. His classes included courses for the CDC & FDAI credentialing programs, as well as Sales and Effective Management of Employees. He also has been a guest lecturer for the DHI and NFMT national conventions. In 2009, Hal began volunteering his time to the Foundation for the Advancement of Life Safety and Security as an instructor for the fire door inspection course that it developed to educate building and fire official communities.
